About us and Where we are now

Huisman Concepts Inc is my design and construction practice, built over close to four decades of residential work in northern Minnesota.

My focus has always been on custom homes and projects where the design, the details, and the way things are built all matter. Over time, that work has naturally evolved, and I am now beginning a gradual transition in how I am involved in projects.

Rather than stepping away from the work entirely, I am shifting my focus away from the day-to-day responsibilities of general contracting and toward design, planning, and project development. This is the part of the process I have always valued most, working directly with homeowners, shaping ideas, solving design challenges, and creating clear, buildable drawings.

This is not a retirement. I remain actively involved in every stage of early project development and continue to work directly with clients who are planning new homes, additions, remodels, and other custom projects. I will continue to be the primary point of contact for design discussions, drawings, and early-stage planning. I also occasionally take on select drawing and design work in collaboration with other builders and professionals outside of my immediate team when it aligns with the type of projects I am focusing on.

A central part of this next chapter is the team that has been with me for a long time. Chris Olson and Scott Quick have worked alongside me for more than twenty-five years, building the homes that define this body of work. Their craftsmanship, reliability, and attention to detail have been essential to every successful project.

As this transition continues, they will take on a greater role in the construction side of the business, carrying forward the same standards that have guided our work from the beginning. I will continue to support projects through design, planning, and coordination, helping ensure a smooth connection between concept and construction.

For clients, the process remains familiar. You can still reach out to me directly to discuss a project. I will help develop the design, prepare drawings, and guide the early phases of planning. From there, projects move into the hands of builders I know and trust, ensuring continuity from first sketch to finished structure.

While the structure of the work is evolving, the goal remains the same: thoughtful design, careful execution, and homes and spaces that are built to last.

I am grateful to the clients, colleagues, subcontractors, and friends who have been part of this work over the years. I look forward to continuing it in a more focused way, centered on design, ideas, and the early shaping of projects.
